Call for submissions: Beat Makers Battle in Ghana
Ghanaian recording company QP Music Production is calling for submissions for its inaugural Beat Makers Battle.
The competition, which was launched in Accra, is open to both undiscovered and established music producers who are residents in Ghana. The winner will represent the country at the 2021 Battle of the Beat Makers competition at the Toronto Opera House in Canada.
QP media officer Lillian Kent Sowah told Music In Africa that the focus of the competition is to promote the beat-making industry and give producers as much visibility and opportunities as singers and other musicians.
To qualify, applicants must submit between eight to 10 original instrumental tracks to qpmusicpro@gmail.com. Alternatively, the tracks can be submitted personally at the QP offices in Accra. Each file must be saved in MP3 format and must not exceed 60 seconds.
The deadline for submission is 30 September.
"Hopefuls will submit their beats to a panel of music industry professionals, with 32 contestants being chosen to compete in a live setting before three judges,” QP said. “The competition will be in multiple rounds. Participants will go head to head playing their beats and winners move on to the next round until the round of finals where a winner is crowned at the end.”
Speaking at the Beat Makers Battle launch, veteran Ghanaian producer Zapp Mallet, who has been named among judges of the competition, urged female producers to send their submissions.
The grand finale of the first Beat Makers Battle contest is slated for 6 November in Accra.
