COVID-19: Midem announces 2020 digital edition
The organisers of the Midem music trade event have cancelled the 2020 edition of the event scheduled to take place in Cannes, France, from 2 to 5 June. Despite the cancellation, the organisers said they would broadcast the event digitally.
"We are reloading with a new online service, called the Midem Digital Edition," Midem director Alexandre Deniot said. "Starting 2 to 5 June 2020 – the dates we should have been together in Cannes – we want to bring Midem to you."
Deniot said the Midem Digital Edition would stream keynote sessions, talks and presentations, as well as opportunities for online conversations and speed meetings with participants.
"We will be in touch with you shortly to explain how everything works. Stay tuned for details!" he said in an online note, adding that Midem's programming would be accessible to everyone around the world with access to the internet.
“The situation related to the coronavirus is changing daily, as are government announcements and restrictions. These impact our industry and the way we live our lives. Let me reassure you that the Midem team is working to support you and your industry counterparts during this challenging time, when global music unity is important now more than ever," Deniot said.
Midem held the Africa Music Forum in late February by going to Lagos, Nigeria, and Cape Town, South Africa, where it hosted discussions, workshops and showcases. In Lagos, it featured a live call with Wyclef Jean. Come June, the trade event will have set up many more video calls and conferences for its digital edition.
Deniot said Midem would be contacting all registered delegates about credits and refunds in the next two weeks. He said the 2021 edition of the festival would be held in Cannes from 1 to 4 June.
