Call for applications: Keyboard residency in Canada
The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (BCAC) is inviting artists from around the world to register for its 2020 keyboard residency.
The three-week residency will be held from 30 November to 18 December 2020 at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada.
The residency will provide keyboardists with space and time to focus on their artistic development through individual and group projects.
In addition to having the freedom to plan their time according to the needs of their project, participants will receive career advice from established professionals who will be visiting at various times during the residency.
Who can participate?
Interested candidates who wish to work on a specific project to create new work, explore innovative ideas and prepare for concerts, auditions, or competitions.
The residency is open to:
- Keyboardists of all genres.
- Composers whose work focuses on the keyboard.
- Performers.
- Improvisers.
- Experimental musicians.
- Music researchers.
Each week, mentors are invited to assist the programme participants. They will be available four to five hours a day for individual or group consultations. Individual studio space to work in, accessible 24 hours a day, is provided to candidates. Participants will also have access to shared production spaces.
Application process
Participant are required to pay the registration fee of 65 Canadian dollars ($45) and other programme-related fees. It is possible to obtain a scholarship covering up to 100% of the programme fees. To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must complete the financial assistance section.

Participants will be selected by an impartial jury based on the material submitted. Successful applicants will be notified as soon as the adjudication process is complete.
COVID-19 UPDATE
The office of the registrar at the BCAC told Music In Africa that the application process is still ongoing. "However, in the event that the programme is cancelled, applicants will be notified and the application fee will be refunded," BCAC said.
"As the situation around the COVID-19 pandemic is ever-changing, Banff Centre will continue to evaluate the level of risk and follow protocols and direction from the World Health Organization, the government of Canada and Alberta Health Services. We acknowledge this inconvenience. This is a difficult time for everyone, but we know we will get through it by supporting each other."
