Bio

Mariam Sowe, is a female Gambian singer based in the U.S. She moved to the U.S. at the age of 11 and was exposed to music at that early age. She had an encounter with legendary Senegalese singer Youssou Ndour when she was 18 years old. Youssou gave her a demo tape which had encouraging words.

In 2007, she moved to Los Angeles, CA in the U.S. to pursue her education. While in the U.S., she met singer, songwriter and producer Hakim Adulsamad, formerly from the 1990's group The Boys. Hakim has worked with artists such as U.S.’ Akon, New Kids from the Block, Viviane Ndour and Youssou Ndour. Hakim’s ability to blend African instruments with hip-hop and RnB beats impressed Miriam and she felt this was a chance to attain a unique sound she was looking for.

Mariam effortlessly blends English and her native wolof language in her music. In 2008, she released her first single with Sunland Music titled ‘Yow La Buga’. As of March 2016, she was working on finishing her debut album.
