Zuchu

Bio

Zuchu is a Tanzanian musician, songwriter, and performer signed to Diamond Platnumz's music company, WCB Wasafi.

Zuchu is the daughter of Tanzanian legendary taarab musician, Khadija Kopa, who inspired her to pursue a career in music, along with her late brother Omar Kopa.

Zuchu began singing at a young age, considering that she hails from a musical family. She broke into the music world in 2015 with the first edition of Tecno Own The Stage in Lagos, Nigeria, where she was one of the competition’s finalists.

Her mother later introduced her to Diamond Platnumz, and she began as Diamond Platnumz's support singer at all of his shows.

Zuchu was formally signed to WCB Wasafi and announced in April 2020 with her debut Extended Playlist named "I Am Zuchu" after 4 years of recording and being in the pipeline, working on her craft, refining her vocals, writing talents, and stage presence, and not giving up her aspirations. In 2020, the EP became the most streamed album on Boomplay and Audiomack Tanzania, and Zuchu became the most streamed female artist across all of East Africa.

She stunned everyone and shattered her own records after only a few months in the music industry. Zuchu made history in Tanzania and East Africa in June 2020 when she became the first female musician to be granted the Silver Plaque by YouTube only two months after joining the streaming platform. Zuchu was one of three Tanzanians (together with Diamond Platnumz and Rayvanny) named to the 2020 Grammy Awards consideration list in October 2020.

Zuchu was named Best Newcomer Artiste at the 2020 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA). She was recruited as the brand ambassador for Tridea Cosmetics, a Tanzanian cosmetics firm, in November 2020, and was later unveiled as the new Darling Hair Brand Ambassador in Tanzania.

Zuchu became the first female artist in East Africa to be given the YouTube Community's Golden Plaque on June 17, 2021, after her channel achieved 1 million subscribers, making her the first female artist in Africa to achieve such a milestone in only 11 months since debuting into a music career.

Zuchu became the most-watched female musician in East Africa in July 2021, with over 200 million views on her YouTube channel.
