Shotgun Tori / TWAIN (Shotgun Tori & Emma Du Preez)

Bio

SHOTGUN TORI

Victoria de La Harpe aka ‘Shotgun Tori’, is a lo-fi indie singer/songwriter from Johannesburg, South Africa who believes that stories are to be shared and not left to wither quietly.

Tori has toured the length and breadth of South Africa, with over 500 live performances at coffee shops, bars, and festivals countrywide. Her songs have carried her internationally to London and Amsterdam, Mozambique and Namibia.

As well as a touring career spanning over a decade, she’s also host and producer of the ‘Shotgun Story’ podcast. (A songwriters search for meaning, the podcast has conversations with indie creators about music, meaning and the point of it all.)

TWAIN

Twain is the collaborative side project of Shotgun Tori (JHB) and Emma Du Preez (CPT). What started off as an 'Exhale', a commonplace double-bill booking at the Alexander Bar in Cape Town has organically evolved into an intricate weaving of songs and songwriting styles between two of the most stirring female voices on the South African music scene. The threads of their individual stories cross over and under each other, offering a multitude of audial and emotional perspectives for the audience.

A powerful and unforgettable experience.

Living in different parts of the country, Tori & Emma perform their show in various cities whenever they get an opportunity - for this is where the Twain shall meet.

SHOTGUN TORI AND THE HOUNDS

Shotgun Tori and the Hounds is an indie/folk band from Johannesburg, South Africa. They make music to move you, and to move to. It’s honest-to-goodness, raw, foot-tapping road-trip music for warm-bodied, hot-blooded humans. It’s an adventurous and soulful mix of country and folk. Dynamic in execution and ambitious in it’s range.

At the heart of it is the musical amalgamation of stalwart on the folk scene, singer/songwriter Shotgun Tori’s sweet, road-worn vocals & the original Hound (also of Crystal Park fame), Fred’s guitar-driven melodies. Blood, history and a mutual love of Ryan Adams brought the band together. Between them they have played almost every festival on the South African musical landscape, and whilst we couldn’t quite call them a supergroup (that would imply fame and/or success) – suffice to say that every member of this band is (or has been) in another band (in fact, each of them have also been in another band with Fred sometime in the past 16 years - the Hellphones, Crystal Park & Fret)
