Rorisang Sechele
Bio
Rorisang Sechele is a skilled and qualified vocalist, songwriter, recording, performing artist and founder of African Orchid Productions. Her musical development started in the Jacaranda Children’s Choir whereafter she attended Pro Arte Alphen Park where she was classically trained, and accomplished her music studies with distinction. She heeded the call of music once more when she pursued studies in Jazz and Popular Music at the Tshwane University of Technology, graduating cum laude with an Advanced Diploma and continues to pursue academia in the field of Jazz music.
In addition to having made it into the highly coveted Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Band in 2021 under the conducting guidance of her mentor, Dr Nduduzo Makhatini, Rorisang has performed alongside Lisette Spinnler, Nthabiseng Motsepe, and Zenzi Makeba-Lee. As a member of The Anchored Quartet, conducted by Ofentse Pitse, Rorisang has worked with Sun-EL Musician, Simmy, Msaki, and Ami Faku to name a few.
Rorisang was a successful applicant for the Digital Mobility Fund 5 which was supported by SAMRO and the Norwegian Embassy which enabled her to stage a sold-out show, along with her band, in the Jazz in Jozi series. She also formed part of the 2023 edition of the Youth Expressions Festival hosted by the South African State Theatre.
In 2024, she formed part of the Redbull Symphonic with Kabza de Small and Ofentse Pitse and was selected to return to the 2025 edition of the experience as the Vocal Musical Director. She was also an incubatee under the State Theatre Incubator Programme 2024, just before being a runner up for the Fine Music Radio Fund Competition. Her involvement in music was further solidified through her participation in the Castle Milk Stout music experience, marking an important milestone in her artistic journey.
Her latest body of work, In Full Bloom – The Seed, was released on 7 February 2025 and continues to make waves in Jazz and Neo-Soul scenes. Her recent The Seed tour, which spanned three major cities, further cemented her status as a rising star in the South African music landscape. The project remains a standout, continuing to dominate jazz platforms, earning a feature on the coveted Jazz NXT playlist and more recently, nominations in the 2025 Urban Music Awards, Mzantsi Jazz Awards and Basadi in Music Awards.
