Pa Bobo Jobarteh

Bio

Pa Bobo Jobarteh is an Afromanding Gambian artist. He is also a virtuoso kora player who started playing the kora in 1988 with his late father Malamini Jobarteh when he was six years old. His father was a former manager of The Gambia National Troupe. His grandfather Kelung Jobarteh and his great grandfather Wandifer Jobarteh were all masters of the kora.

In 1988, he performed at World Music Arts and Dance (WOMAD) festival in the U.K. when he was 11 years old. Upon his return from the U.K. in 1989, he formed his own band called Touba Kaira band. The band comprised of ten people.

In 1997 and 1998, he toured Senegal, Singapore the U.S. and Australia. In 1999, he released his debut CD album called ‘Kaira Naata’. The project was recorded at Real World Records in the U.K.

In 2000, he released a second album entitled ‘Duwa’. This was followed by ‘Oh Gambia Peace Love and Unity’ in 2001. In 2003, he released acoustic solo album entitled ‘Peace Love and Unity 2’. In 2010, he released his third album ‘Nasama Alfaa’. In 2015, he released his fourth album titled ‘Hakeletu’.
