Bio

Lenson Njuki Wa Ng’ang’a popularly known as Mr. Lenny is a Kenyan Afro- hip hop artist who has been on the music scene since 2000. Lenny was introduced to music by his friend and early collaborator Nelson Kiama aka Dr. Paper.

Mr. Lenny officially started his music career in 2000 under the Sratch Records label that was owned by Robert Ndirangu and Clement Rapudo who later formed his own recording studio Calif Records. As among the new crop of artists who were performing new music that was not readily embraced Lenny had to move around to find studios that would record his kind of music. He found audience with the recording Studio dubbed Entertainment with a Difference (EWD) that was owned by Jimmy. With EWD Lenny recorded the single ‘MCs’. While still working with EWD, Lenny met the duo of Mr. Googz and Vinny Banton who were planning to do a remix of their single ‘Githurai’. The duo asked whether he could feature on the remix. This collaboration would prove beneficial catapulting Lenny’s career to newer heights. The duo also re-introduced Lenny to Ogopa DJ where he met other musicians from across East Africa.

He met Kunguru with whom Lenny forged a great working relationship. Together with Kunguru they released hits like ‘African Woman’ and ‘Baby Don’t Go Away’. He also worked with another artist the late E-sir (Issah Mmari) with whom he worked on the single ‘Kamata’. Amid the collaborations, Lenny also found time to work on independent projects. He went on to release his independent single ‘Cash Money’.

With his star continually rising on the Kenyan music scene, Lenny together with other artists toured across East Africa to showcase Kenyan music. After touring various European nations in 2004 Lenny got back to the studio and worked on his debut album Kwa Nini. In 2007 Lenny took a break from music to pursue business ventures in events organizing.

He revived his music career three years ago when he released ‘Randa Randa’ at Grandpa Records. He is currently working with different producers with a view of producing his second album. He has also gotten back to the live music scene and has so far performed at the GoDown Gig and PRC concerts.
