Maua Sama

Maua Sama was born in Tanzania on August 27, 1990 in Tanzania. Her singing career started when she was a young girl. Initially, her parents were opposed to the idea of her singing, with emphasis being put on her to concentrate on academics instead. Despite the pressure and her wish to drop out of school, to focus on music, she finally graduated.

In early 2013, Maua was discovered by Mwana FA, who was struck by her vocal prowess. Later that year, they collaborated on a song “So Crazy.” In 2015, she released her first single “Let Me Know”, which introduced her to the industry. A few years later in 2018, it was her hit song “Iokote” featuring Hanstone that propelled her music career in Tanzania and beyond. In the same year, she was also nominated for the Best Female Award at the Soundcity MVP awards.

In her latest project, ‘Cinema released in 2022, which is a 7-track EP, Maua doesn’t shy away from the vulnerability of love. With features from Ali Kiba and Jux, the sultry singer demonstrates why she’s a force to reckon with in the East African music scene.
