Kyambogo University, Kampala

Bio

Kyambogo University was established in 2003 from the amalgamation of several earlier institutions. There are departments of music, dance and drama. Formerly known at the Institute of Teacher Education, the University had the role of producing secondary school teachers. The teacher training activity has been transferred to the ten National Teachers’ Colleges across the country, so the Department of Performing Arts took on the role of ‘producing diploma-holder tutors for the Primary Teachers’ Colleges, and graduate teachers and tutors for the various tertiary education institutions.’

Programme detail: Diploma in Music and Theatre Arts. Two years. Studies include performance (classical, jazz), basics of dance, drama, marketing, events management, recording techniques, Ugandan traditional dance, acting, choral conducting, music education (for teaching in schools).
