Khayalethu Mguzulo
Bio
Khayalethu Ruddy Mguzulo is the last born of four children. Raised in Soweto Orlando East, he moved to Sebokeng Golden Gardens at the age of 23 due to not being able to complete High school.
He studied ICT and fashion designing, however, after not completing both courses, he then resorted to running the family business of a tuck shop, where he discovered a love for poetry through watching YouTube videos during his spare time.
In 2018 challenged to write poems and take part in poetry slams.
He placed 2nd place in the Tewop 6 poetry slam, 1st in Recite Your Own poetry and was the Soweto 2k challenge winner.
Now has an award from the African Print Authors & Poetry Awards for ‘Best Male Poet’ and a ‘Poet of the Year’ Award from Word n Sound 2019.
In 2020 Mguzulo got to share his first-ever showcase titled “Critical but Stable” on the World of Words stage, also being part of the CSP class of 2020/2021. In the same year of 2020 Mguzulo saw himself being in the semi-finals of the Poetry Africa Slam.
He seeks to tell issues kept secret between poetry and society.
