The House of Culture

Located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, The House of Culture House is an exciting project which has transformed the old King Gorge V museum in Dar-Es-Salaam into a modern tribute to African Cultural heritage in Tanzania.

The House of Culture has an ethnography gallery which displays the rich and diverse tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Tanzania. Diverse cultures of Tanzania can be seen through traditional healing, initiations, ornaments, costumes and recreational objects, households’ utensils and musical instruments. Developments of the faming implements as well as textiles are also on display.

It is also a great place for children and young people to engage with and learn about local heritage and culture, an attractive and modern home for collections and programmes and features exciting exhibitions and performances and provides space for the production, marketing and promotion of cultural industry products. The House of Culture was officially launched by President Dr. Jakaya Kikwete on 3 December 2011.
