Felabration

Felabration is the annual celebration of the late Fela Kuti's birthday on 15 October 1938. It is organised by his family as part of a foundation. The idea of Felabration as an annual celebration originated from his eldest child, Yeni, who conceived it in 1998. Previous events have featured International stars like Julian Marley, Damon Albarn, Amp Fiddler, Antibalas and many more.

The 13th edition in 2014 takes place in two main venues in Lagos, the Afrikan Shrine and Freedom Park Lagos, between 13 and 19 October. Guests in 2014 include Keziah Jones, Don Carlos, King Sunny Ade, Wiz Kid, Nneka, 2Face, Mavin Allstars, Kennis Music Allstars, Biodun Batik and at least 50 more Nigerian and foreign artists - all to celebrate the life of the musical icon and political activist.

Besides live music performances, the festival includes various other activities, such as a symposium series, a secondary schools debate, dance troupes, photo exhibitions, and the Fela Street Carnival Parade with musical floats and costumed dancers.
