Elzabé Zietsman

Bio

Elzabé has worked in almost every medium of entertainment: On stage in drama, comedy, farce, pantomime, revues and musicals. On film and television in music specials, cabaret programs, soap operas, dramas, series, as actress, singer, chef, presenter, interviewer and interviewee.

In 1999 Elzabé recorded her first CD, XIII and followed with the second, In My Bloed/In my Blood in 2002, both with Rocco de Villiers on the piano. A live DVD of her show Agter Glas was recorded at the UJ Theatre in 2008 and a double CD with live recordings of Twee van die Beste and Kaalgestroop saw the light in 2010, both with Janine Neethling on the piano.

In 2003 she opened her own restaurant, Zietsie’s in Johannesburg where she does all the cooking herself wearing an apron embroidered with the words, Actress, Songstress, Chefstress – there wasn’t enough space to add Waitress. In 2007 she expanded on the restaurant and added a guest house to her repertoire.

Elzabé is a founder member of the non-profit organization, The Doilie Foundation that was registered in 2013 and takes care of exceptionally talented children whom would otherwise not be able to fulfill their potential. This became an almost full time job as four of the beneficiaries of the foundation was put into Elzabé’s foster care.

As a single parent it became difficult for Elzabé to tour, but she still managed to play leads in three movies, star in the one woman play Dis Koue Kos, Skat, appear in various TV shows, perform regularly in the dining room of her guest house and can currently be seen as Magda Potgieter in the daily soap opera, Getroud met Rugby.

With her foster kids in their final year at university setting her free to tour again, Elzabé is working on two brand new cabarets to take on the festival route, a new one woman play for Woordfees2021 and will start shooting a new 26 episode sitcom for the SABC, Die Vlieënde Springbokkie, in April 2020 in which she plays one of the leads.
