Bio

David Chifunyise is a popular Zimbabwean musician and songwriter, also known as 'D-va', a nickname given to him as a teen. He is one of the pioneers of the Urban Grooves genre of music in Zimbabwe. He fell in love with music at a young age. At age 6 he started learning how to read music and played the xylophone in his school play. He moved on to other instruments as his love for music grew. Chifunyise played the saxophone in his song 'Ruvarangu', though he is best known for his guitar skills. He can also play the piano, drums, mbira and bass guitar.

Chifunyise released his first song, 'Tauya Naye', in 1999 on the collaborative album 'The Future', produced by Shamiso Records. This was followed by his first album, also called 'Tauya Naye', with tracks such as 'Hapana Chakaipa' and a remix of the title track receiving substantial airplay on radio stations. In 2002, David produced his second album, 'The Private Collection', with hit songs including 'Sarudzai'. In 2004, it was followed by 'Zvandiri' (As I Am), which he describes as his most revealing album to date. In 2010, he launched a limited edition album titled 'Classics Volume 1', a collection of his hit songs. David is also the composer and singer of the intro to the popular Zimbabwean TV show, 'Studio 263'.
