Christine Kamau


Christine Kamau is a Kenyan Trumpeter, Composer, Band Leader and Performing Artist. Her music is a fusion of Jazz, Funk, Soul, Benga and Chakacha. Christine Kamau credits her musical influences to Hugh Masekela, Maroon Commandos, Miles Davis among others.

In 2012, Çhristine Kamau released an 8-track instrumental afro-jazz album titled 'This is for You'. The album offers an exciting listening experience, the music being a fusion of Jazz with the African music elements of ‘Benga’ and Rhumba’. This debut release received positive reviews from the music community and saw her featured on the BBC music program titled ‘Africa Beats’ a series that showcased emerging music talent from Africa.

A keen collaborator and campaigner for music as a tool for propagating unity, Ms. Kamau has worked with various musicians from across the African continent and has shared a stage with musicians such as acclaimed jazz group Incognito, Addis Acoustic Project, Fathy Salama, Ida Nielsen, Isaiah Katumwa, Lira and Timi Dakolo.

Christine Kamau is also the Founder & Artistic Director of Women in Music Forum, a platform that seeks to promote women in performing arts by providing an avenue for them to showcase their stage performance skills.

Having performed at various stages including 'Jahazi Literary & Jazz Festival', 'Kigali Jazz Junction', Yaounde Jazz Festival', Christine Kamau is steadily becoming an established name on the African Jazz Scene.


Recipient 2017 British Council Mobility Grant, ETHIOPIA

This British Council East Africa Mobility Grant saw her travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for music exchange and collaboration with Ethiopian Jazz Musicians.

Speaker 2017 Music In Africa ACCESS Conference, SENEGAL

Christine Kamau was an invited as a speaker at the 2017 ACCES Music In Africa Conference held in Dakar, Senegal.

Member 2018 ACCES Curation Committee, KENYA

Music In Africa's Conference for Collaborations, Exchange and Showcases (ACCES) curation committee members are some of the most influential music industry players on the continent and will select the artists who will showcase at ACCES 2018 in Kenya.

Jazz from Germany Visitors Program July 2018, GERMANY

Christine Kamau was invited to join 16 jazz music industry players from 15 countries for the 2018 Jazz from Germany Visitors Program organized by the German Federal Foreign Office.
