The Big Samba
Bio
The Big Samba is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter from the Eastern Cape. He is currently based in Kwa-Zulu Natal in an effort to expand his horizons as a creative and musician.
From the age of 12, Katleho Poswa began his musical journey by taking guitar, vocal, and piano lessons. However, it was in his spare time, which he spent on his mother’s laptop, that he fell in love with producing and composing original music using only GarageBand to begin with. He spent most of his hours at home after school manipulating samples and audio to make songs of his own. In addition, he also spent these early years putting together music videos for songs he had recorded with his friends.
At the age of 15, Katleho auditioned and was chosen to compete in the iPOP talent convention in Los Angeles. He came home that day with a second place position in the categories of singing, acting, and modelling. Since then. He has gone on to refine his skill and artistic intent through creating his own unique sound which is a blend of sample-based hip-hop and new wave r&b that comes together to form a nostalgic, vibrant and
boundary-pushing style in each of these respective genres of music.
He is currently operating independently, releasing music through different avenues of the internet including his own YouTube channel. Through this medium he offers an authentic view of the step-by-step creative process while sharing his personal thoughts and opinions about creativity and producing music on such a platform.
This makes The Big Samba a musical oddity that can simultaneously remain grounded and connected with his audience through his ingenuity.
As an artist, Katleho is constantly looking to be involved in new spaces where he can bring something distinctive and engaging to the table and the outer musical scene.
