Bio
Ben Pol – R&B Star & Social Impact Leader
Early Life and Creative Exploration
Benard Michael Paul Mnyang'anga, widely known as Ben Pol, grew up as a quiet and observant child with a deep
curiosity for the arts. From an early age, he explored singing, drawing, acting, dancing, and even comedy. Yet, it was
singing that resonated most. Encouraged by positive feedback, he gradually focused on music, realizing his voice
connected deeply with people.
Entering Tanzania House of Talent (THT) & Early Competitions
In 2007, during his Form 4 year, his friend Stereo encouraged him to audition for Tanzania House of Talent (THT).
Accepted on the spot, Ben immersed himself in music classes, group songs, stage performances, and vocal training,
laying the foundation for his career.
Throughout high school, Ben refined his musical skills through school events and practicing keyboard and piano. A
key milestone came in Form 6 when he participated in Clouds Media’s singing competition, securing a top 10 spot
and recording his first song, Shining Star.
First Recordings and a Breakthrough Hit
After high school, Ben met producer Mbezi, with whom he began recording more tracks. A visit to Music Lab (MLab)
led to an introduction to Professor Duke. Initially brought in to sing a chorus, Ben impressed Duke so much that he
was invited to record a full song, Pata Raha. The song's success prompted Duke to propose an entire album project.
This collaboration birthed the hit Nikikupata in 2010—a song that would catapult Ben Pol into the limelight.
“Nikikupata” and National Recognition
“Nikikupata” became the song that changed everything. The track's popularity brought Ben his first major bookings
in clubs and events like Maisha Club and Bilicanas. In 2011, he won the Tanzania Music Award for Best R&B Song
with Nikikupata, cementing his place in the industry. That same year, he released his debut album Maboma and
embarked on the Tanzania Awards Tour, performing across more than 10 regions.
Inspired by Tanzanian R&B pioneer TID and his album Sauti ya Dhahabu, Ben Pol honed his signature style.
His style can be described as Authentic East African R&B with a soulful, contemporary twist, blending smooth
vocals, heartfelt storytelling, and rich Swahili melodies.
Cross-Border Collaborations and Chart-Topping Hits
As his reputation grew, so did his collaborations. Over the years, Ben has worked with East African and African
heavyweights such as Joh Makini, Jux, Nameless, Avril, King Kaka, Sauti Sol, Chidinma, Mr Eazi, and Darassa,
among others.
Hits like Sophia, Unanichora, Jikubali, Pete, Maneno, and Samboira topped charts. His 2015 single Ningefanyaje with
Avril hit #1 on Soundcity TV’s East Africa countdown. Career highlights include Coke Studio Africa, Muziki with
Darassa, and Phone with Mr Eazi, earning him multiple AFRIMA and EATV nominations.
