Joel Baloyi - Treasurer

Adv. Joel Baloyi was admitted as Advocate of the High Court of South Africa in 2006. Baloyi is also a senior lecturer at the University of South Africa (UNISA) School of Law where he teaches Intellectual Property Law and Commercial Law. He has vast experience in the entertainment industry and has consulted in almost all areas of the industry.

For many years Baloyi worked as head of legal services and company secretary for the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), Africa’s leading collective management organisation. In this position, he assumed many leadership roles, including lobbying for the industry.

Baloyi has been actively involved in entertainment industry activities and has frequently been invited to speak on Music Rights Law at government meetings and conferences. In 2014 he was awarded the Entertainment Law Expert of the Year for South Africa by Global Law Experts. The following year, Baloyi was awarded the same award by Corporate International Legal Awards the following year.
