Zaki Ibrahim

Bio

Canadian-born South African singer-songwriter Zaki Ibrahim has managed to find a degree of success in both countries. Her debut EP, 'Sho: Iqra in Orange', was released in 2006. Her second release 'Eclectica: Episodes in Purple' (2008) earned her a Juno Award nomination for Best R&B Recording in 2009 for the King Britt-produced ‘Money’. In 2010 she contributed ‘Ansomnia’ to the soundtrack of Tyler Perry’s movie For Colored Girls.

A popular live performer in Canada, she has opened shows for the likes of Erykah Badu. In 2012 she performed at 2012 Winter Music Conference in Miami, including opening the International Dance Music Awards. She has also performed all over Europe. She has featured on songs by top South Africa producers DJ Kent and Culoe de Song as well as Canadian producer Nick Holder and others.

In 2013 she released her debut full-length album, 'Every Opposite'. Its diverse cast of producers helped to consolidate a global sound - a unique mix of hip-hop, R&B, soulful jazz and spoken word. The album was nominated in 2013 for a Sama for Best R&B Soul Record. It was also short-listed for the $30 000 Polaris Prize, awarded to Canada’s best album of the year.
