Agorosso

Bio

Agorosso (real name is Lloyd Phaundi) is one of the best Malawian acoustic players who has performed in various African and European festivals. He is a guitarist and music composer who draws his music from the traditional melodies of his Sena heritage. Sena is a cultural group from Mozambique where Portuguese cultural influence is highly active.

His music touches on the daily lives of people in his community. He doesn't censor what he sings. He openly criticizes the government. Some of his songs have a hidden criticism on social injustice. He touches on the torment of widows. His open criticism of cultural customs is unusual in Malawi, mostly in rural villages where tradition is valued above the rest. As such, his music is naturally political. The importance of music in the country is somehow overlooked but he has made his music draw attention to social injustice.

In March 2014, he launched his eight-track debut album called 'Famba (Let’s Walk)' at Mibawa Café, Blantyre.

Besides making music, he is a music in teacher at Jacaranda School of orphans. He has also participated in various music workshops bent on teaching the youth about music. In 2011, he represented Malawi at the World Youth Forum held in Munchen and Berlin, German. He is an actor and has featured in a film called ‘Seasons of a Life’, a film that portrays the country's social injustice.
